My name is Elvie Golding, your local neighbor here in Charlotte. I
am a full time hospital worker, a mother of 3 girls, 2 in college and one in HS
at CVU.
Life for me is like a roller coaster ride, through peaks and valleys, but for some reason or another, I always manage to come out alive and in one piece. Not necessarily enjoying every moment of the ride. However, I learned from a very young age that I am responsible for my own success in life, with God on my side. Success to me, is not an accident, but a journey to some unknown destination (time and space) and a burning desire to reach the Land of OZ (land of milk and maple honey). I also realized that a road less traveled can actually lead us to what we want out of life as long as we have a clear vision of what want to see, do or be on the other side, and never give up in our dreams. We have some stops or challenges along the way, but as long as we continue the journey we are good. Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Let him learn a prudence of a higher strain. Let him learn that everything in nature, even motes and feathers, go by law and not by luck, and that what he sows he reaps.” That’s life to me. Gardening and cooking are two of my life’s passions. I know that I am really good at it especially when I am making money to fund the rest of the cravings in my life. I am not going to mention them all to you because they are just the icing on the cake for me. One of the reasons why I am here is because I want to be a part of you – successful men/women entrepreneurs working together to grow various business and support our local community. Along with my desire to succeed in business in our town, I also want to give back to our community; reach out to those in need. I cannot do it all by myself, but with your help, together, we can make a difference. I just started my project early last spring this year by joining the farmer’s market in Shelburne. I saw that our backyard garden produces vegetables more than we can eat from the past 2 years. These are the vegetables that you’ll never see ordinarily in our regular local stores. We grew seeds that came from Southeast Asia. These produce are collected seeds mostly from our local farmers from my country and tropical places. We started growing them in little pots inside our kitchen from February until it is ready to plant then outside, in the garden. Our kitchen looks like a jungle farm but we utilize what we have and make the most of it. We also used UVM green house to help us start our seedlings but we can only use a minimum space for the season and we are limited to what we can grow. Me and my garden partner are now looking for a 10 by 20 green houses and a storage shed for our harvest, canning, and preserving our produce. I also plan to use part of the shed as a classroom to teach those who are interested in new skill of starting growing their own garden (from pots to farm) starting from precious seeds of Southeast Asian – from growing, harvesting, preserving, and using them as staples just like we did from our country. My purpose is to educate the public about self- sustainable income from small garden with big yields like what we have been harvesting; learn other minority cultures, (related to crops), pick the best concepts suited for Vermont weather without spending too much money to start. We can use materials that can be donated or maybe traded with other crops later on. From our garden, we use them to create our MAPLE BLUES FRESH SALSA and SWEET INDIAN SUMMER RELISH. These are just a few from many we have created. These products are available in our local grocery stores, country stores and Deli. My sales started to climb this summer and I believed that this business had potential to grow. I just need a little help on my project marketing them. With your help, these will be possible to achieve. Lots of my fans (food lovers) who bought and tried my products said that the taste and quality of my food sell themselves. With my growing business, I hope to create jobs for those people who would like to be a part a growing business serving our local community. Our food is our culture. And, I wanted and wished that our culture will be preserved and enjoy by our future generations to come. Enjoy my food and join my cooking lessons. Give me a call if you have the same interest, together we can make a great difference preserving culture and having fun enjoying all our blessings and sharing ideas. have a great winter season and enjoy your family during the holiday. "Time well spent are more precious than gold!" For me, we can always find gold but we can not find the same time. Let's count our blessings as soon as we open our eyes and touch the floor as we get up in the morning.' just a blessing to be alive and free. Delightful and juicy Chinese Red Roast Pork
